A very simple SDR does not work

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I have freshly installed B Exec 2012 onto a standalone server Win 2008 R2.

I have 2 SATA hard drives connected to motherboard and they are seen as device 0 and device 1.

I am using an external USB West Dig drive to house my B2D folder.

I have successfully performed a Full backup of this media server and all the .bkf files are in the proper B2D folder.

Question

I run the SDR wizard (boot from CD) and when I am asked which storage device contains the backup data, I select the BEData folder and am provided with the following error:

"The media for some of the backup sets could not be found in the selected storage devices. Add another disk storage device that contains media required to restore the backup set."

The BEDRWIZ.log says "Error - Media for the backup set C cannot be found in the device media label searched B2D0000003"

(But it doesn't search the other B2D labels. Moreover, the job history reports that the job used B2D00009 and higher.)

Thoughts? Thanks

Backup Exec 2012 Archiving

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi

I would like to ask your expertise regarding our archive setup.

I have a backup exec 2012 server installed connected to a autoloader.

We are planning to have 2pcs of tape for archiving.

Q1: Is this a possible setup?

1st Tape will be a normal archiving tape (Not overwritable always appendable)

2nd tape will be archiving the same data as what 1st tape has archive and will delete the data on server after the archive.

Is this a possible setup.

Hoping for your advise.

Thanks

BackupExec intermittently fails to set or clear backup mode of EV indices

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Backup of EV 10.0.4 (using BackupExec 2012 SP4) fails intermittently while attempting to set or clear backup mode on EV indices. Event ID 41397 ("Some index volumes may not have the correct backup mode set. This can result in inconsistent backups.") is logged on EV server & backup mode can thereafter be set / cleared manually on EV server with no errors. Setting or clearing Backup Mode is always succesful on EV server using both admin console & powershell. But the problem keeps reappearing randomly when the BackupExec job is executing. BackupExec jobs do not fail consistently but 50-60% of the time, always with the same error ("cannot set or clear backup mode"). Workaround described in TECH209776 has already been attempted with no result.

Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance

Backup Exec 15 Time Zone is not same as the server settings

When I installed Backup Exec 15 the locale settings were wrong (UTC -8, Pacific Time). i noticed it because the scheduled job were running in weird moments, even tho the server time was set correctly to Singapore time.

after noticing the mistake, i tried all the solutions i found online. (change the settings, restart the serverices, uninstalled Backup Exec, reinstalled it) without success.

the server now has everything set on Singapore Time, with the location in Singapore. but after reinstalling Backup Exec, under the "Local Server Properties" i still see (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time, and all the scheduled tasks are running at the US time instead of Singapore time.

how can I solve this problem? how can I force Backup Exec to Singapore time instead of Pacific Time?

SDR-Backup from a copy of a backup set

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi everybody,

I've just a problem restoring a Windows 2008 SBS with BE2012.This server is on another location.

I made a complete backup to an network drive. I copied all backup sets from this fullbackup with duplication function in BE to a USB-drive.

In my office I want to recover this server without installing Windows and BE.

I'm using SDR, locally connected storage, giving the programm the correct .DR File, choosing the last backup and the correct folder with the copy of this backup set.

Error message is:

The media for some of the backup sets could not be found in the selected storage device. Add another disk storage device containing the media required to restore the backup sets.

Is anybody able to tell me, how to work with copy of backup sets, if the Mediaserver isn't available or how to copy backups right, to test complete backups using SDR.

Licencing DR Server

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I want to build a test Disaster Recovery BE server to connect to our replicated Data Domain store and run an inventory and do some test restores from it.

Can I do this without a licence? We don't need to run BE at the remote site other than in a DR situation, but simply want to test our setup. The test server will either be in cold storage until a DR situation or we'll blow it away again depending on the options.

Or is it the case that I need CASO and an additional licence to do this properly or by best practice?

Thanks in advance for any info.

BEX2012 Logon Account Change

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hi all.  I upgraded from BEX 10d (inherited server/configuration) to 2012 where all backup jobs using 10d and now all backup jobs using 2012, where created and run using an originally configured domain logon account in our domain.  We are now  being forced to collapse our domain in our enterprise environment and therefore this logon account will no longer be valid.

Can I easily add another account, most likely a local admin account on the server where BEX2012 is installed, within the "logon account management" configuration pane and set this new account as "default" and have everything work as before?

Will BEX and the DB still recognize all the cataloging and such in order for me to be able to pull data from the backup job tapes that were created using this original domain account, and cataloged when the version was 10d as well as the newer backup jobs made with v2012?  I seem to remember, when doing the BEX upgrade, there being something about the tapes being "locked" by default when v10d was used to created those old backups.  How dependendant are all of the backup/cataloging jobs to tape on the logon account for BEX 10d and 2012 that was used.

How can I best test out using the new local server "default" logon account to pull data from the old and newer tape backup jobs?

tnx...

Exchange backup taking to long.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I wonder is somebody can help me, (my knowledge of Backup Exec is limited) our backups recently have been taking hours to complete, what normally takes 3 hours is now taking up to 11.
I have checked for updates and made sure there is plenty of space on the Qnap drives it writes to. I have also checked the alert notifications and nothing is showing untoward.

Can somebody give me some advice and steps I can take to resolve this?

Many Thanks in advance.

Back Up Virtual Machine - Virtual-based backup vs. Agent-based backup Choice?!

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

In the Symantec Backup Exec 15 Administrators Guide on page 861 you can read:

"On the Back Up Virtual Machine
dialog box, select the backup method
that you want to use for this virtual
machine, either Virtual-based backup
or Agent-based backup, and then click
Next."

everything i tried, i never get this choice :( ... what i'm doing wrong?

The selected server is correctly marked as "Windows computer (virtual machine)". In the menu "Backups", i tried to select Backup => Back Up to Disk. Now i get the "Backup Definition Properties"-Dialogue but not the expected choice... Where is the missing link to be able to make a virtual-based backup?

BE does not produce any backups, tasks are stuck without any progress

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hello!

There is BE 2012 and several servers which should be backuped. We are experiencing very strange problem, sometimes all tasks are stuck without any progress, status of such tasks is "Running" and current operation is "Backup", but there is not any progress, field showing bytes is empty as well as field "job rate". Such state of tasks can long infinitely until we notice it and then reboot BE. Recently rebooting could solve the problem but now it does not work any more, after rebooting only several tasks are completed and then BE server is stuck again, and, as a result, we cannot do regular backups. I have created several screenshots in order to make the issue clearer. What should be done in order to fix the problem?

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

hallo,

We are using Backup Exec 15 and all backups are working perfect except two; our two Sharepoint servers. one WSS 3.0 (Windows Server 2003) and one Sharepoint 2013 Foundation (Windows Server 2008 R2).

Once in a while a backup will succeed without errors/warnings but in 9 times out of 10 (for borth servers) the job fails with the following errors as below. We are not experiencing any network issues that we are aware of.

Problems restoring or duplicating backups created with 12.5

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

We have some old (from 2010) backups created with Backup Exec 12.5 that I want to duplicate to newer tape format, plus I need to restore a handful of files from them. We're currently running Backup Exec 2014, fully patched. Unfortunately it's not working.

If I try to duplicate the backup sets from tape to disk, the Backup Exec Job Engine service crashes:

Faulting application name: bengine.exe, version: 14.1.1786.1103, time stamp: 0x54d50683
Faulting module name: bengine.exe, version: 14.1.1786.1103, time stamp: 0x54d50683
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00000000005ac4c2
Faulting process id: 0xe58
Faulting application start time: 0x01d0c9534b90914b
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\bengine.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\bengine.exe
Report Id: 0aac456d-354a-11e5-9fab-90b11c00b15c

If I try to restore files, it restores 0 files even though I've selected some to restore. It can read the catalog OK, but the backup is completely useless. I'm trying to duplicate & restore files and directories backed up from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008R2. The irony of this is that I can duplicate and restore a SQL Server backup set on this same tape without issues. It's roundabout since I need to duplicate it to disk then use an old version of Backup Exec to restore to an old version of SQL Server, but it works. So why don't the files restore?

Will upgrading to Backup Exec 2015 make anything better? Was thinking about doing that anyway...

Hi All,

I am running a Full Backup to a Disk storage in Backup Exec 15 and I remove it at end of Job

I run a incremental job following it to a different Disk storage

Both use same drive letter

Is this right way of doing?

Or should both run to same device or resource
