We select using archived bit in backup option, and check no more option can be changed in linux and mac windows.The size of differential backup of linux is same as full backup. Check backup history, it says "Differential - Back up changed files since the last full (using modified time)". How can we changed the backup of linux to using archived bit, so that even the backup is not 100%, it will back up diff data since last full backup?
1. For autoloader backup,the tape properties in BE2010, the compression ratio is accurate to one decimal place.Is the compression ratio accurate to two decimal place in BE15?
2. The compression ratio of the cartridge can be 2.1:1 ,but in the Slot details in Storage in BE 15 , the compression ratio is 1.06:1 or 1.05:1 . How to increase the compression ratio so that the tape can backup more data?
We have just updated to BE 15 and on our Storage - Tape Library - Slots the only columns displaying for our media is "Slot Number" and "Capacity" even though the other items are selected.
Attached is a captier showing the selected columns, This is after a inventory has been run on the library.
What am i missing?

4 servers have been configured for backups and notifications enabled for same all. recenlty i deleted and recreated a job task for one server.
now it's Job status Notification is not receiving for newly created job. earlier it worked.
all settings are configured properly.
please advise me.

I have two jobs to be executed with the same LTO drive to the same Tape:
Job1: Start at 03:00 finished around 08:00
Job2: Start at 04:00 finished around 07:00
What will happen to Job2 when it will try to start at 04:00 while Job1 not finished yet?
Will Job2 wait until Job1 finished at 08:00 then it starts and finished around 11:00?

I'm trying to run the Backup Exec Utility, and getting SQL errors. THe utility, for those that may not know, is at:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BEUtility.exe
I'm on a Windows 2012 R2 server, running BE 2014 SP2, with full SQL Server 2014 installed locally.
When I try to do any operation with the utility, I get the following error:
Starting database utility operation.
Failed to start the SQL service on:EMSBACK.
Database utility for server EMSBACK canceled.
SQL is running just fine, regardless of what the utility thinks.
Any tricks to getting the utility to run?

My BackupExec 2014 restore rate is to slow comparing to backup job rate.
Backup server (physical machine) is connected with 10GbE to NDMP storage and with LTO (Fujitsu LT20/ Ultrium 6) using 8Gb/s FC.
I am backing up and restoring vsphere datastores from NDMP storage.
Backup rate is approx 4,5 - 6GB/min. This is OK and acceptable.
Restore rate is approx 680MB/min. This is very slow.
I am restoring one VM in size of 36.8GB and restore lasts for 58 minutes - almost an hour.
Has anyone experienced same problem? Any tips? Solutions?

At this moment we have the following setup:
Both NetApp's are running in Cluster mode version 8.3SP2
NetApp HQ creates Snapvault snapshots which are replicated to the NetApp DR. We use Backup Exec with NDMP to backup from the NetApp DR to tape. We are running this for two weeks now and we notice that the NDMP backup is rapidly becoming larger. It looks like it is backing up al snapshots, which is not what I want.
How can I verify what exactly is backed up and make sure that only the latest snapshot is backed up?

How to configure the two jobs so Job2 start to append to the tape after Job1 completed? (ie Job2 starts at 08:00 and completes at 11:00)

I am running Backup Exec 15. I've noticed for the last few days that DLM is successfully removing the expired backup sets from the database, but it is not reclaiming the physical space on the disk. It did do this at one point. I need to manually erase all the .bkf files in the BEData folder or else the backup will run out of space and fail.
One item of note is that I have been using a BEMCLI script to force the DLM interval to one minute to ensure that DLM always has a chance to run before the backup takes place, and it was working flawlessly clearing the sets through DLM and reclaiming the space on the disk. The script does this:
1. Grabs the value from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Server, CheckReclaimSpaceIntervalMinutes
2. Stores current value in variable to restore later.
3. Sets value to 1.
4. Restarts the Backup Exec services.
5. Waits 2 minutes for DLM to run and reclaim space.
6. Restores original value of key.
7. Restarts the Backup Exec services again.
I welcome any thoughts in how to troubleshoot this further.

I have archive exchange data on tape but no longer have a exchange server on the network. How can I restore the mailbox to a pst file?
Or to a different format to view the emails?
The above dropdown doesn't offer Server 2012(R2) but that's what im running on...
Anyway, i have a local drive E: that has a bunch of our archived data on it (outside Backup Exec, it's just copies of files). I'd like to create a new folder for Backup Exec (2014) to write its own backups to. It seems that since 2012, i can no longer specify a folder, but only an entire drive.
It does say that it won't format the disk if it's already formatted, and that BUE won't overwrite any data, but i'm a little skeptical.
Can someone confirm that i can configure a local drive that already has data on it as a storage device for BUE2014 without affecting any data that's currently on that drive?

We have 2 Backup Exec 2015 servers in CASO/Manage roles. They are both utilyzing deuplication storage and are replicating between themselves. On our Managed server the storage is sudenlt showing 14 instances of "Tape drive SYMANTEC OstDrv", from 0001 to 0014.
From another post I see that OST is the technology used by the deuplication drives but I would like to know exactly what these drives are and why they are showing up now. Is it safe to delete these and if so how?

We are backing up some servers with SQL instances which are intentionally excluded from backup in Backup Exec. However daily we receive the alert "Warning: Job Warning: The automated credentials test failed for the following server or servers. Select 'Test All' on the 'Test edit credentials' dialog to view and fix any problems with the credentials."
I have read the article at the link below. That article suggests to select "Check logon accounts only at the server level" in the global logon accounts daily automated credentials test. This is not an acceptable solution.

I do not wish to eliminate the resource-level credential check for every server being backed up to eliminate a known false alert caused by an item I am not backing up via Backup Exec. The suggestion from the article would result in many resource credential checks which should be performed daily to be eliminated.
Please enhance this automated logon accounts credentials test function so it is aware of the resources selected for backup and does not alert when credentials fail for an item which is not selected for backup.

I apologize for my bad English.
I have one issue with BackupExec.
I have 3 servers (you can see it on attached picture).
Data from srv3 must be copied to StoreEver connected to srv1 by FC.
BackupExec Server is installed on srv2 (that can see srv1, but can't see srv3 - network specify).
I installed BackupExec Linux Agent on srv1 and added Network Storage on Backup Exec Server Console (according to instructions). Now I have Robotic Library and Tape drive. I've done the inventory and server determined 18 Tb of storage in the library. I planned backup task, ther must copy a few folders from srv3 (mounted to srv1) to tape library. Backup finished after 5 minutes and Job Log shows me successful status of completed job. Byte Count -= 1.53 Kb. But there are about 12 Tb of data.
I don't think symantec can compress a data with such great way:)
Can you help me with my issue? Perhaps, there are some particular logs, that I can look at.

This is a very frustrating moment for me. I am installing Backup Exec 15 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with AD and Exchange deployed on the same machine.
I have run the environment assessment successfully.When I attempt to install Backup Exec the installation fails at the Install SQL Server Express stage.
The vxLogServer Generated log files return: "Failed to install BackupExec instance with error -2147024893.To search for information about this error click here"
And the link is empty under Symantec site.
The sqlsetup.log returns one specific error:" Attempting to run workflow componentupdate"
"Attempting to launch process f:\7cxxxxxxxxx\x86\setup100.exe"
"process returned exit code: 0x000000"
"Workflow componeUpdate returned exit code: 0x000000"
The detail_componentupdate.log returns:

Gostaria de saber quais os procedimentos que preciso fazer para realizar uam operação de restore de um Database completo. Achei algum material na internet, porém esse material indica fazer o restore para um recovery database em outro servidor, o que não é meu caso. Eu quero restaurar um determinado database inteiro no mesmo servidor, sobrepondo o original.

first of all - I don't have an actual problem, just thinking about "what if...".
Ok, what, if I have to revert my AD to an earlier point of time. I now about authorative restores but I hope I can accomplish this only with BE.
Currently we use 3 DCs ... one 2008, that holds all the FSMO-roles and another 2008 that is just global catalog. Same for a 2012R2.
When I plan to revert my AD let's say to last week, do I only have to restore the system state of the main DC? Does BE treat this as an authorative restore? Do all reverted changes automatically replicate to my other DCs?
Sorry if this may feel like a NOOB-question, but when I am facing the problem I'd like to know what I can expect when messing around with a DC.

I am looking to move mailboxes to a new DAG which has been redesigned for our needs. I am wondering if I need to add the new DAG to the current backups on Backup Exec 2010 and how I do this? I am very new to backup exec and I have just inherited this environment after the previous person left the organisation, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
