ich habe Symantec BackupExec 2012 auf Windows 2008 R2 mit dem "Agent für Applications and Databases" im Einsatz .
Gesichert wird ein Exchange 2010 Server. Aus Platzgründen halte ich die IMGXXXXX-Ordner und die dazugehörigen Dateien 7 Tage auf der Platte vor, schreibe sie dann auf Band weg und lösche sie.
Ein Restore aus den 7 Tagen ist kein Problem. Wie kann ich einen Restore (z.B. einer Mail) aus einem solchen Ordner machen, der dem Backupserver so nicht mehr bekannt ist?

Lost with BAckup Exec 12.5

I am lost and Symantec is not willing to help. Have a Backup Exec 12.5 on a SBS 2008 installed. Lost a couple of folders and want to restore... BUT....
All recent backups do not have these folders anymore. So I found an old disc that should contain those folders..but it is afull backup of the server... BUE can even identify the files it needs... But I just want to restore a few folders not the whole server.. how do I get this stupid programme to read out the content of the backup but not to restore everything....????? I do not want to overwrite my exchange with old files.. etce.. I am lost. this programme is a mess in terms of usability. Can anyone help??? PLEAAAASE ...Urgent

Licensing of Backup Exec

in customer that have this scenario bellow:
1 Host VMware with 4 VM's:
VM1 = SQL
VM2 = SQL
VM3 = Exchange
VM4 = AD;
And he has EMC Data Domain to do backup to disk.
My mode of licensing bellow is correct ?
- Deduplication option, to permit do Backup To Disk using EMC Data Domain. Or none option is necessary to use EMC Data Domain ?
- 4 agents of Application and Database to protect all of 4 applications.

Successful failures with CIFS backed up from symbolic links

We have some NetApp CIFS shares that we need to backup. We do not own the NDMP Agent license. Googling quickly revealed others get around this by simply running the mklink command, and making the CIFS shares symbolic links on the backup server. I did this. I then created a test job, selected all the files and dirs in the CIFS share through the symlink, and tried the job. It ran, showed successful, but the byte count is just 900 bytes.
I go to do a restore (realizing just 900 bytes means there's not one to do) and there is nothing to restore. I go back to the job and see all the files and dirs are indeed selected.
What gives? I've been googling, but cannot find the problem. It is because the account to backup that local drive is "use the system's logon account"? And the local server's system account doesn't have the rights? Wouldn't this cause an error? The thing that gets me is no error. Just "Successful".

BE 2014 two-server (separate sites) configuration

We were fortunate enough to have a budget that let us have two extremely large (by our standards) backup servers that we would like to use to house two sets of backup data. Our first server has been up and running for about two months and is working great. We purchased capacity licesnses as we don't have all that much data compared to the amount of servers we back up and it unlocked all the features for us. Instead of leaning heavily on tape archives, and because of our infrastructure, we decided bringing a second server in to the mix was the best idea for us.
New server is in, I go to deploy BE to the second machine and make it a managed device and then I see the catalog options and suddenly my configuration I was going to use isn't quite as clear to me. So, I need help knowing what options to choose to make the setup we have in mind a reality.
We want to:
1. Split our sites backup targets between the two servers to help with bandwidth (22 sites, 75 servers)
2. Duplicate all backup sets between the two servers with the optimized deduplication feature
3. Have local backups for each server run regardless if the other server is online
4. Restore data from either server regardless if the other server is online
From what the catalog options say, this doesn't appear to be doable, so I'm wondering if anyone can help. Obviously this needs to be a situation with the least amount of headaches for the admin who has to do restores, I can babysit the configuration. Promoting a managed server to the CAS is fine for us as long as the data which was duplicated from the original server is still restorable and backups still run!

Catalog Job Fails at - First Storage Group

I'am currenlty in site A. I'am trying to do a catalog using tapes from site B (full backup the the month of November (3 tapes) and month of October (3 tapes)).
I'am using the same hardware and software as in site B : same servers, same version of backup exec (11d), same Library Tape, and same LT02 tapes model.
However catalog job always fails with this error message :

An unknown error occurred on device "HP 1".V-79-57344-33991 - A tape read/write error has occurred. This is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive. Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again. If the problem persists, try a different tape. You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.
I have clean the tape drive several time, i tried with tapes of november and tapes of october ( 6 tapes in total ) and the catalog job always stoped a the same byte count 2,241,428,234
It seems that the problem is associate to Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group...
- i have unchecked "Request all media in the sequence for catalog operations" unchecked "use storage media-based catalogs" and unchecked "truncate catalgos after"
- i have rebuilt the catalogs (renamed it)
FYI : a catalag media with tapes from site A works perfectly (then it is not a hardware problem)
The tapes contain an Exchange server backup + files server backup
Any ideas ?

Re your last comment on staging the backup to disk - how much of the backup has to be staged to enable the restore? To restore a single file off of a backed up volume of a single server is it only the volume that is staged or the entire server backup?

Backup To Disk then to TAPE

Currently I am backing full server daily to TAPE directly. Now I want to convert this job from tape only to Backup_to_Disk_THEN_to_Tape
My question is , How it will work? BE will first copy data from the source server to Local BE Disk in BKF file , then again it will read from source server and write to tape , right ? so double reading from the source server ?

In the "active warning messages" pane of my Backup Exec 2010 R3 I have a warning:
LiveUpdate Information: There is 4 Remote Agent server whose patches are not up to date. To install the latest patches, click on "Extras -> Install Agents and Media servers on other servers". Click there on "Import and Export -> Import servers published on this Media server". This starts a remote installation session which makes sure that your servers are updated with the newest patches present.
I am unable to follow these instructions.
- I do not have "Extras" to click on anywhere, so I chose the nearest match, "Installation and Licensing > Install Agents and Backup Exec servers on other servers" from the Backup Exec menu.
- This opened a new window listing all my clients where the Backup Exec agent is installed, all with the mention: "Currently no updates or upgrades necessary."
How can I find and fix the cause for that warning?

Weekly Full Duplicate backup wont complete untill TS Weekly Full Duplicate Jobs Complete

I have a bit of a strange issues. To give you an idea as how we are configured I will detail our policies and then detail the issue.
Backup Setup
Backup Server Windows Server 2008 R2, Backup Exec 2010 R3 with SP4 on a Physical Server connected to a Robotic Library.
Policies
Default Policy – This contains a Weekly Full Backup which backups to a folder call BackupToDisk. This backup is then duplicated by a backup called Weekly Full Duplicate. The Weekly Full Backup runs on a Friday between 22:01 and 21:59 on the Saturday. The duplicate backup is then set to run once the Weekly Full backup completes
Terminal Servers Policy – This contains a Weekly Full backup to Disk which again save backups to the BackUpToDisk Folder and then has a second linked job to Duplicate the backups to Tape. These jobs run on a Saturday starting at 22:01 till 21:59 on the Sunday.
Both duplicate jobs are linked to their respective Weekly Full Jobs and the use the Media Sets.
Issue
Currently the Weekly Full backup for our Default Policy for our main servers runs perfectly fine on a Friday and into the Saturday, but the duplicate job always fail with the following error message The job failed with the following error: The device cannot be found. If I then try and run the Jobs again by resubmitting on the Saturday then the Jobs again fail with the same error message. If I wait until after the Terminal Server jobs have completed on the Sunday and then resubmit the jobs for the rest of the servers the jobs complete successfully.
The Terminal Server Jobs both Weekly Full and Duplicate complete successfully.
I have checked that all the previous Weekly Full backups have completed which have all completed successfully, so there is no reason why the backup shouldn’t be working.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this happening and what I can do to stop this from happening.

Restore Exchange Backup from files

I´m using Backup Exec 2010 R3 to make backups from a exchange 2003 server with a few users.
The backup is a daily full backup from the exchange 2003 machine.
Now i got the problem that a user deleted over 2 GB of his mailbox to make free space on the server. Before he deleted the mails he did an archvie of the mails an stored it in a .pst file. But the archive was not running successfully so now there are missing emails in the archive.
This happened a week ago.
So i started looking in the Symantec Backup Folder an found an backup folder from the exchange server with the date 10.07.2014. The whole folder has 120GB. In it there are this files:
ese.dll - 2MB
exchmem.dll - 157KB
exosal.dll - 69 KB
jcb.dll - 28KB
pdi.txt - 19KB
pdi_strm.bin - 1KB
Postfachspeicher.txt - 502KB
priv1.edb - 116GB
pub1.edb - 7.1GB
pub1.stm - 2.4GB
Is there a way with Backup Exec to restore this directory and restore his mailbox from this date?
I tried in Backup Exec over the button "Restore" with assistant to restore the backup. But there are only two images available from the 17.07.14 and 16.07.14.
But how above described there is a directory from the 10.07.14 with files in it. How can i restore explicit this directory?

Backup Exec 2014 agent install / c:\windows\installer

Using Backup Exec 2012 agents. Upgraded main server to 2014 version with latest hotfixes. Copied from "\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents" -directory all contents to network share. Copied that contents to server A1 to the local directory C:\Install.
Local install at server A1 fails. Started "RAWSX64\Setup.exe". Everything goes smoothly, until it fails and this shows at log:

So, it is missing another file. I don't think user should have to copy all files manually to C:\windows\installer -directory. There is something wrong here. Not sure how to proceed, and need to upgrade all clients. Push-install from server didn't work.
Tried to uninstall old agent from Control Panel. It worked successfully.
Install 2014 agent locally again. Now it worked!
Do I have to uninstall all clients manually and duplicate this procedure?

Is backupExec 2014 perfect for VMWare Host/Guest backup?

We are running two Esxi VMware Hosts (HP DL 380 g6) with 10 guests VMs including File server, Exchange and MSSQL. I have installed Veeam Trial recently and it appears to be working well. However we are keen to know if BackupExec 2014 is right solution for us?
I am intrested in knowing if Backup Exec supports:
- VMWare host Esxi and guests backup and instant restoration? How long it takes to recover / run from backup a VM in case of failure?
- Granular restoration of data , emails from within a guest VM?
- agentless backup solution for VMware?
- VMWare DR solution?
- Also, why Backup Exec 2014 may be better than Veeam

Schema Mismatch and Database not found of BEDB ...

Hi,
i tried to migrate my BE 2014 Installation from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 on the same Hardware with the same FQDN.
I reinstalled the new OSE with all MS Updates and installed the BE 2014 RTM with the latest hotfix (same as the installation under 2008 R2).
Disk layout is the same.
I followed the withpaper http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129826 and it failed.
At startup of the beutility i receive error messages in the event log.
The Backup Exec Device and Media Service cannot start because it detected a database schema version mismatch.
And ADAMM was not able to open the database ...

Even the symantec preinstallation check is not working as needed. the pre req. ceck doesn´t check for .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.
.NET 3.5 SP1 is needed by SQL Express installation ...

This functionality requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Please install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 to use this functionality.
Has anyone tested the migration process as described in the symantec whitepaper, before publishing?

Backing up remote location with Backup Exec 2012

Hello - I'm trying to find out if there is a way in BE 2012 (or 2014) to backup a database server in a remote location with a media server in another location. The scenario:
BE Media server is in location A
Database server is in location B
Desired backup storage is in Location B
Locations A and B are connected by a 50 Mb fibre connection (latency < 1 ms)
Is there a way to do a direct D2D backup of the database server in B to the storage in B using the media server in A? I couldn't find a way, but thought I'd check to see if anyone else had any ideas before giving up and looking at other options.
