Hello.
I have inherited the responsibility of backing up the data.
We are using Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 and Dell 124 T Storage device with 7 slots for backup tapes and 1 cleaning tape.
At the current state the full backup is defined with 001..003 tapes, while differential backup is defined with 004..006 tapes. I feel that one slot is not being used while last slot is holding cleaning tape.
According to some reading that I did, since we just don't have enough capacity for full backup anymore, the next action would be to expand the amount of tapes for doing a full backup as I think but I see that there is no way to alter existing definition of device pools.
Would the following be the correct steps for adding that extra tape?
Delete existing device pools from Devices screen.
Create a new pool; 001...004 first and then 005..007 second.
(how to then let the Backup Exec know which ones to use for full backup and the other for differential backup?)
(any additional steps to take - (inventory tapes?))
Would it make sense to actually make the full backup 001...005 and then just keep two tapes for differential backup;006..007?
Thanks, Dinko
